What is learning to mum and why I started this blog?
It started off in early 2020 when I gave birth to my lovely son, Benji during the pandemic. I wanted to pen my thoughts down and also document my motherhood journey. I bought the domain “learningtomum.com” and was hopeful I would get round to building the blog and started writing. But being a first time mum with a newborn in the middle of the pandemic and a house move, it wasn’t high in my priority list. It was put to the back burner and I documented most of Benji’s first year of life on Instagram – some posts had relatively long caption and others were short and sweet, as I’d like to think a picture paints a thousand words.
The idea behind this blog is to continue my passion for documenting my motherhood journey, hoping some of my learnings can be useful for other mums (and dads and carers) who may come across this blog.
Being a mum (or a parent) is a continuous lifelong journey – that’s how I’d like to think of think of it. You are learning each day, not just learning how to parent but you actually learn through the lens of your little ones. They open your eyes to new experiences, you see the world through their eyes, they spot the most miniature thing and their curiosity will hopefully spark yours and you start to see the world a bit differently.
I want to document those because I have learned so much more about myself since Benji came into our lives. I am now pregnant with baby number 2 (who we have decided will be our last), I want to document this journey again just as much.
I am not an expert in motherhood. I am always learning and each day isn’t always sunshine and rainbows but there is always something positive about each day as I go along this journey.
What will you see in this blog?
I’d love this blog to be a collection of resources that I would have found useful for my first time mum self.
You’d see me share about my experiences about motherhood, tips and tricks that I found useful for myself, places I’d highly recommend for kids days out, my thoughts on childcare and being a working mum, activities that I do at home with Benji, useful resources that I found online, our breastfeeding journey, our weaning journey and a lot more.
If you have stories of your journey you want to share, please let me know – drop me an email or I’ll link a form here where you can share it. I’d love to hear it and with your consent, we could post it in the blog too. I always enjoy reading other people’s journeys. There is always something I can learn through your stories.
If you have any feedback or suggestions about the blog, I would love to hear it.
If you see any bugs on the website or typo, or you have any questions – please drop me an email. I will try and work on it.
Thank you for reading this far.
Hope you enjoy reading the blog and find learnings and useful things in my blog posts.
Lots of love,
Cris
